My inspiration and passion to help people look and feel beautiful without surgery is deeply rooted in the indelible impressions of my mother's daily beauty regimens and anti-aging practices I was witness to throughout my childhood. She was way ahead of the times in the daily pursuit of her lifelong mission to stay beautiful, young, thin and wrinkle-free with creative homegrown DIY beauty remedies, little did she know she was laying the foundation of my future career. When I was 12 my mother sat me down for "the facts of life talk", complete with props. Much to my confusion, the prop was not a bird or a bee or even a banana, but a huge tub of Vaseline. She let it be known, in no uncertain terms, that the only fact of life I needed to know was "moisturize" and vaseline was it the way to do it. I was instructed to apply vaseline every night around my eyes and mouth before I went to bed for the rest of my life and when I was 50, I would thank her for not having wrinkles on my pretty young face. If she only knew about sunblock! She wore DIY duct tape frownies between her brows to help with her furrowed 11's and cleaned the house with a 4-inch leather belt cinched around her tiny waist. She slathered her dog tired feet and dishpan hands with the very same moisturizing vaseline and wore little white socks and gloves to bed and woke up with the most incredibly soft skin I ever remember touching, like satin. I was thoroughly enchanted with my mother's magnificent collection of exquisite high heeled shoes; she was so petite I fit in them and she taught me how to strut like a Barbizon model on the runway. She also taught me how to put a smile on my face if my fabulous shoes hurt my feet, no one needed to know; apparently, there was another fact of life I needed to know: sometimes beauty hurts, smile like it doesn't. I grew up in an era where little boys became doctors and little girls become nurses, so in 1967 was I surprised when I announced to my mother that I was going to be a nurse, and she looked me in my big brown eyes, and knowingly charted the course of my life with one simple forward-thinking statement "Oh, honey, you know girls can be doctors too," and voila a cosmetic physician who accessorizes her scrubs with high heels was born and now branded as Well Heeled Beauty.
